Celtel Premier Music Awards 2003 - 2006

Celtel Premier Music Awards Information

2003; 2004; 2005; 2006 event held on Friday, December 15th 2006 at the National Stadium Main-Bowl. 2Face from Nigeria was the special guest. His appearance in Sierra Leone did not have the same impact as P Square earlier in the year, but he graced the occasion well. The bulk of the PA System, Stage and Lights used by the organisers, Premier Media, came in from the Ivory Coast. Music Makers of Sierra Leone supplemented the imported PA System.

Since 2003 all the way through to 2005, Premier Media have always organised the Celtel Premier Music Awards event in collaboration with the Cassette Sellers Association (CSA). However, starting in 2006, Premier Media will organise the CPMAs without the collaboration of the CSA. The CSA organised their own music awards show with sponsorship from Comium. Award season sees several award shows including, The People's Choice Awards, The Promoters Club Awards, The TBS Awards and the grandest of them all, the Grand Awards, which were held in London in 2006. It is expected that the 2007 Grand Awards will be held in London also. Nigeria is a possible location for the Grand Awards 2008. Online nominations and voting for the 2007 Grand Awards will be officially administered on Voote.com. Thanks Ravind!

An event organised by Premier Media & CSA

The CPMAs are considered amongst the most prestigious and coveted music awards for Sierra Leonean musicians. The event was held on Friday, 16th December 2005 at the National Stadium in Freetown.

Emmerson received 4 PMA 2005 Nominations and won 3 Awards

Khady Black received 3 PMA 2005 Nominations and won 1 Award

Vee received 1 PMA 2005 Nomination and won 1 Award - Best Female Vocalist

Father Thug received 1 PMA 2005 Nomination and won 1 Award

Star Zero received 1 PMA 2005 Nomination

Winners of the 2005 PMAs were announced at a concert on Friday, 16th of December 2005. The 2005 event venue was the National Stadium's Main-bowl, Freetown, Sierra Leone with a capacity of about 32,000.

Celtel Premier Music Awards (CPMAs), sponsored by Celtel, are amongst the most coveted music awards in the Sierra Leone music scene. Up until 2005, the CPMA was organised by Sierra Leone's top media company Premier Media, in collaboration with the Cassette Sellers Association (CSA) who are the leading distributors of music within Sierra Leone. The 2006 event will be a Premier Media event. Since its inception in 2003, winners of CPMAs have reflected the best music that's come out of Sierra Leone in the previous twelve months.

In 2005, each winner received prize money of four million leones and a beautiful trophy pma 2004 trophy made in England. It was the biggest event to date with a professional PA system and stage set brought in from Ivory Coast. An after-party was held at the beach to showcase the winners. In addition to the Celtel Premier Music Awards, the Sierra Leone Grand Music Awards will be held in London in 2006 to celebrate Sierra Leonean music and Sierra Leone's musicians. It promises to be a great event, not just for Sierra Leonean musicians but for Sierra Leoneans everywhere! More information can be found at the official Grand Awards website. 2Face is reported to be costing over $25,000 USD to come and perform at the 2006 CPMA. The PA System, Stage and Lights are coming in from the Ivory Coast at a reported $15,000 USD. If wishes were money everyone would be a millionaire. If I had that cash to spend on one awards show, I would do things differently. I would want to spend a lot more of it on making things better in Sierra Leone, not taking it out of Sierra Leone. I wonder what it would have been like to... To read more about my commentary on how I would have spent the cash, log on to the Supreme Inc Blog for the latest.
